Fogg's Automotive stocks reconditioned used sedans near Schenectady, NY — compact, midsize and all-wheel drive. Every one is inspected to a 151-point standard with tires and brakes replaced before listing, and qualifying vehicles under 85,000 miles carry our lifetime engine limited warranty. If you commute alone most days, a sedan costs less to fuel, insure and tire than the crossover built on the same platform.
Updated daily as vehicles arrive and sell — every one reconditioned before it was listed.
If you commute alone five days a week, an SUV is an expensive answer to a question you are not asking.
Two situations where the default answer — buy the crossover — is the wrong one.
The gap is not just the sticker. A midsize sedan typically returns better fuel economy than the crossover built on the same platform, wears cheaper tires, and costs less to insure. Over a three-year loan that difference is usually worth more than the feature you gave up. Sedans also drive better on a long commute — lower center of gravity, quieter at highway speed, and easier to see out of in traffic than most crossovers.

Most sedans are front-wheel drive, and front-wheel drive with proper winter tires handles a Schenectady winter perfectly well — it is what most of the region drove for decades. Tires do far more of the work than the drivetrain. That is why tire condition is part of our reconditioning: we replace anything at or below 5/32 of an inch and fit tires starting at 10/32, against a New York legal minimum of 2/32. We also stock all-wheel drive sedans if you want the traction without moving up to an SUV.

An SUV is the default answer for a lot of shoppers, but if you are commuting to Albany five days a week and rarely carry more than two people, a sedan will cost you less to buy, less to fuel and less to insure. That gap is real money over three years.

Parents buying for a teenager or a college student usually want three things: it has to be safe, it has to be reliable, and it cannot become a monthly repair bill. That is exactly the case for buying a reconditioned car with a warranty rather than the cheapest thing on a corner lot. A car that strands a new driver at night is a far bigger problem than one that cost a little more up front. Every vehicle we sell has been through our inspection process, and the lifetime engine warranty on qualifying vehicles means the most expensive possible failure is covered for as long as you own it.

Three sizes, and the trade each one asks you to make.
Cheapest to run, tightest in back
Sentra, Corolla, Civic and similar. The lowest running cost of anything we stock and genuinely easy to park. Rear seats are usable for adults on short trips and fine for children. If your commute is the main event and the budget matters most, start here.
The commuter default
Altima, Malibu, Camry, Accord. Comfortable over a long drive, quiet at highway speed, and roomy enough for a family of four without the fuel bill of an SUV. This is the largest part of our sedan inventory for good reason.
Winter traction without the height
Less common on the used market and worth asking about. You get the grip that sends most people to a crossover, in a car that still drives and fuels like a sedan. We keep them when we can get them.

Yes, with the right tires. Front-wheel drive sedans handled Capital Region winters for decades before crossovers took over, and tire condition matters far more than drivetrain for stopping and steering on snow. If you want the extra traction, we also stock all-wheel drive sedans.
Reliability tracks maintenance history more than badge. Across the models we buy repeatedly, the Altima and Malibu both hold up well when serviced on schedule. Rather than rely on a general reputation, every vehicle we sell comes with a free CARFAX so you can see how that specific car was treated.
Generally no — sedans have depreciated faster than crossovers for several years. That is a disadvantage buying new and an advantage buying used: it is why a two or three-year-old sedan is often the best value on any used lot, including ours.
Yes. The Fogg’s For Life lifetime engine limited warranty applies to qualifying vehicles under 85,000 miles regardless of body style, and it is the same warranty whether the car is a sedan or a three-row SUV.
Look for a reconditioned midsize or compact sedan with a clean history report, modern safety equipment like a backup camera, and warranty coverage. Reliability matters more than price at this end of the market — a cheap car that breaks down is more expensive than a sound one.
Generally yes. Sedans typically cost less to purchase, use less fuel and are often cheaper to insure than a comparable SUV. If you do not regularly need all-wheel drive or cargo space, a sedan is usually the better value.
Qualifying vehicles under 85,000 miles at the time of purchase include the Fogg's For Life lifetime engine limited warranty at no extra cost. Ask us to confirm coverage on the specific vehicle you are considering.
