This is the Malibu’s strongest argument and nobody markets it. Parts are widely stocked and inexpensive, every independent shop in the region knows the platform, and nothing has to be ordered from overseas or handled by a specialist. Tires are ordinary sizes. Insurance sits lower than an equivalent crossover. Over three years of ownership those differences regularly add up to more than the price gap between a Malibu and the import sedan people cross-shop it against.

The Malibu is front-wheel drive, and that is genuinely fine here — it is what most of the region drove for decades. What matters far more than drivetrain is tread depth, because tires do the stopping and the steering. That is why tire condition is part of our reconditioning rather than something left to the buyer: we replace any tire at or below 5/32 of an inch and the tires we fit start at 10/32, where New York only requires 2/32.
